You have a lot of options for a keyword rank checker, the best free option I have found so far is seobook’s rank checker firefox plugin.
Other tools for keyword research
SEMRush, find out your competition’s keywords and spy on mega websites like ezine articles to find keywords you can build websites on (if ezine ranks for it, you probably can beat them). Our SEMRUSH review and here is another post and video on how I use SEMrush to give me new niche ideas to start websites on by finding easy to rank for keywords.
Cheap articles
$17 for ~20 articles with spin syntax a month. If you want articles complete with spin syntax delivered to your email every business day (so 5 a week) you might be interested in this post. It’s $17 and I had success using them to backlink non related niches but if you are in the health or IM niche these will definitely save you some money, just make sure to follow the tips I point in my post such as making unique ressource boxes and/or add a unique paragraph with your links inside.
